"I want to get rid of 'old mentality'. I cannot use traditions and laws that were made in the 18th century to build India's future in the 21st century. I want to make a change by reform, perform and transform," he added.

BJP delegation meets Delhi poll body chief, demands verification of voters in burqa and face masks

The Delhi BJP delegation handed over a memorandum to Delhi CEO, for verification of 'burqa' clad wom

en voters on the day of polling on May 25.

A delegation of the Delhi BJP on Wednesday met the Chief Electoral officer (CEO) here demanding proper verification of women voters wearing ‘burqa’ or face masks with the help of female officials during May 25 polling.

It said that the step would prevent “anti-social and anti-democratic elements” from “rigging” the election on seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital.

The demand comes amid a recent controversy over BJP candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Madhavi Latha being booked by election authorities for allegedly making ‘burqa’ clad voters show their faces for verification.

The Delhi BJP delegation handed over a memorandum to Delhi CEO, for verification of ‘burqa’ clad women voters on the day of polling on May 25.

“Those who come to vote wearing burqa or face masks should be allowed to vote only after thorough verification through female officials,” demanded the delegation that included BJP MLAs Ajay Mahawar and Mohan Singh Bisht, state secretary Kishan Sharma and lawyer Neeraj Gupta.

Mahawar said that steps should be taken to ensure there is no fake voting of any kind.

The memorandum submitted to the Delhi poll body said, “In accordance with the ECI’s rules, we request that you deploy adequate female polling officers and female security personnel at every polling booth to verify and cross-check the identities of burqa-clad voters.” This step is also requested in view of the larger public interest, especially in such Parliamentary constituencies where the number of ‘burqa-clad’ women voters is high, it said.

“A large number of ‘burqa-clad’ women visit polling booths for voting. Hence their identity needs to be verified through appropriate government-mandated identity cards allowed for casting votes to prevent bogus voting,” it said.

The EC’s handbook for presiding officers of the polls also details the steps to be followed by them to verify an elector’s identity, it added.

Rare first edition of Harry Potter book, one of only 500 copies printed, sells for Rs 11 lakh

The copy was initially bought for 30 pence by a collector in Staffordshire who died earlier this year. Many of us who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s were fond of reading Harry Potter books. Author J K Rowling turned a whole generation of kids into voracious readers, transporting them into a magical world as they wished they received a letter from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Now, a rare copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, one of the 500 printed by Bloomsbury in 1997, has sold for a whopping $13,500, approximately Rs 11 lakh, at an auction. The book was a part of 300 copies that were sent to libraries. This particular copy was bought for 30 pence (Rs 30.88) by a collector in Staffordshire, UK, who died earlier this year. The winning bid, which was well above its estimated value of $3,800 to $6,400, came online from Los Angeles, said auctioneer Richard Winterton, who is based in Lichfield, Staffordshire.I literally have this same book at home,” commented an Instagram user. “What is rare about this book particularly,” another asked. “When the book was first released the publishers didn’t think it would be popular so they only printed 500, this is one of the original 500. Two hundred of those were sold and the other three hundred were given to libraries in an attempt to up readership and spread popularity by word of mouth. It worked!” a netizen explained.
